KnowFirm — Opt-Out & Data Removal Policy (DRAFT)
DRAFT for owner + counsel review. Not legal advice.
Who can opt out
Individuals whose personal information appears in KnowFirm data (e.g. sole proprietors, officers, registered agents) may request removal/opt-out. Requests about a business entity are handled as corrections where the record is a public business record.
How to request
Email privacy@knowfirm.com (or use the opt-out form at knowfirm.com/opt-out once live) with enough detail to identify the record (name + identifier or business). We may verify the requester to prevent abuse.
What happens (enforcement)
- Honored opt-outs are recorded as active suppressions.
- KnowFirm's API excludes suppressed subjects from all responses — business lookup, search, and batch enrich. (Implemented: the API filters active suppressions on every read.)
- Suppression persists across data refreshes, so removed records do not reappear when public sources are re-ingested.
Scope & exceptions
Opt-out does not apply to:
- Sanctions/denied-party (Consolidated Screening List) records — a sanctioned party cannot opt out of sanctions screening; and
- information legally required to remain available.
Timeline
We aim to process verified requests within [30] days, consistent with applicable state data-broker and privacy laws.
